Can You Get a Mortgage on a Skilled Worker Visa?

Yes — if you’re living and working in the UK on a Skilled Worker Visa (previously Tier 2), you can usually qualify for a mortgage. Many mainstream and specialist lenders accept these applications, provided your visa is valid and you can show stable UK income and residence.

What Lenders Look For

  • You’ve lived and worked in the UK for at least 12 months — we can still help if you’ve moved here more recently.
  • Your visa has 6–12 months or more remaining
  • You have a UK bank account and credit history
  • You can evidence a consistent UK income

Even if you’ve only recently arrived, some lenders will still consider your case with a larger deposit or a joint applicant who’s a UK citizen or permanent resident.

Deposit & Loan to Value (LTV)

  • Up to 95% LTV (5% deposit) if you or your partner have lived in the UK for 5+ years or hold permanent right to reside, or have a higher income of £75,000 (sole) / £100,000 (joint).
  • Up to 90% LTV (10% deposit) for newer arrivals or shorter visa terms.

A strong employment contract and good income record can help offset shorter UK residency.

  • Proof of income: 3 months’ payslips and P60
  • Proof of address and UK bank statements
